Argentina bound 29.06.12

Matei Mandache of Year 12 departs on 1st July to represent the UK at the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) being held in Argentina.  He performed very well at the Balkan Mathematical Olympiad earlier this year and, following exhaustive tests held at Oundle School during half term he has been selected to represent his country in the most prestigious Mathematics competition for school-aged students.  He has been selected from an original field of hundreds of thousands students from across the land:  a magnificent achievement.

Matei is the third student from LGS ever to make the team, following Michael Harrison (1984) and Jonathan Lee (2006).   He also follows in his father’s footsteps:  he competed for Romania in the IMO in 1983, and was top of the Romanian team, finishing individually fifth in the world in that year – ahead of all of the UK team.

We wish Matei every success in his endeavours.
