The visit of the VSU to the National Memorial Arboretum provided an opportunity for some of our boys to honour the passing of one of their ex-colleagues from Loughborough High School, Joanna Dyer.
Joanna attended LHS from 1994 to 2001 before studying PPE at Oxford University and going on to Sandhurst. She was commissioned into the Intelligence Corps in December 2006, attached to the 2nd Battalion The Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment, and was based in Basra, Iraq. Tragically, on 5 April 2007 at the age of 24, along with three colleagues, she was killed by a roadside bomb. Her name appears on the Armed Forces Memorial, on the Basra Wall, relocated to NMA from Basra in 2010, and a tree, along with a plaque from LHS in her memory, grows in the Iraq and Afghanistan Willows Memorial.
Two VSU boys, along with Joanna’s ex-teacher Mrs Baker, on behalf of all at LGS and LHS, paid their respects to our fallen colleague.
