On Tuesday 13 March, five LES Teams left for the NEC to compete as finalists in this year’s Big bang Competition. The LHS STEM Team ‘SafeCase’ were victorious and won ‘The Innovation Award by Network Rail’ in recognition for their innovative thinking and how the team collaborated with others. Two other teams LGS STEM Team ‘SPAR’ and LHS STEM Team ‘ConductOvest’ were approached by organisations afterwards, who wished to assist them in taking their ideas further, even though they just missed out on an award!
David and Sankha awarded the UK Engineers of the Year 2018 with their trophies and certificates on stage and also gave a fabulous speech in the evening to 400 invited industry dignitaries at the Big Bang Dinner. Various companies including BAE systems and the RAF, came up to Mrs Kaur afterwards inviting David and Sankha to be STEM Ambassadors at their outreach programme and roadshows. Both students have been invited to assist judging at the Midlands regional fairs this year and to assist on the panel for the Big Bang Finals next year.
Mrs Kaur has been invited to join a working group lead by Engineering UK that comprises of industry leaders who wish to help bring a more inspiring STEM programme to schools
Suffice to say a fabulous result all round.
