The Chief Guest at this year’s Senior Prize Giving was Mr Simon Timson (OL 1982 -89). Since January of this year he has been Director of Performance for UK Sport and as such, amongst other things, he is responsible for ensuring we win more medals in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 than we did at the London Olympics last summer.
After leaving School, where he was a talented high-jumper and still holds all the School records, he became a member of the GB bobsleigh squad for the 1992 Olympics, which led to him being appointed as Performance Director at British Skeleton in 2000. His very successful tenure saw GB winning medals at every Olympic Games since 2002, culminating in Amy Williams’ Gold in 2010.
He then moved to be the Head of the England Development Programme and Science and Medicine at the England & Wales Cricket Board where he was equally successful in guiding both women’s and men’s teams to the top of the World rankings in every format of the game, before moving on to his present position as Head of Sport UK.
Mr Timson awarded prizes to boys in Years 11 to 13 as well as to our most recent leavers.
