Loughborough Grammar School had 5 boys qualify to represent Leicestershire at the English Schools National Championships at Birmingham on 7 & 8th July.
To qualify for this competition, not only do athletes need to be ranked in the top 3 in the county, but they also need to have achieved a very demanding qualifying standard.
In the 6th form competition, David Ayreetey (400mhurdles) and George Burnett (1500m) qualified, whilst at Intermediate level (Years 10 &11) Ben Rouse, Olly Rouse, and Dan Maud all ran in the 1500m. George reached the final and finished a very creditable 9th, whilst Ben, Olly, and Dan ALL reached their final, finishing 12th, 10th, and 7th respectively.
To have 3 boys from the same school qualifying for a national final in the same event is incredibly rare. The competition is open to any boy in Year 10 or 11 from any school in the country.
We would hazard a guess that this has not happened before in the competition’s 60 year history, in any of the 6 age groups for boys and girls.
