ESCA Cup Success 15.05.14

The Under 15 XI, County Champions last season as Under 14s, started their ESCA Cup campaign with a resounding 9 wicket win over Denstone College.  Bowling first they restricted the opposition to 100 all out in just over 36 overs.  Opening bowlers Ashish Trusz and Charlie Royle bowled very tightly, not allowing Denstone to score quickly, as did Ed Chad-smith, Milo Abraham, Tom Hall and Tom Rock and the visitors struggled to set a challenging target.  Mention must be made of Ed Chad-Smith’s three wickets in four balls which halted a potential late-order revival.  The bowlers were ably supported by some excellent ground fielding, the highlight being a spectacular run-out by Ravi Nathwani.

Loughborough openers, Charlie Royle and Patrick Shortt, batted circumspectly and, hardly ever looking uncomfortable against some very good bowling, established an excellent partnership, putting on 72 for the first wicket before Patrick was brilliantly caught in the slips.  This proved to be Denstone’s only success and, joined by Ravi Nathwani, Charlie continued to bat with increased freedom and the pair saw off the total with Charlie scoring a splendid, unbeaten 48.  Loughborough’s final score:  104 for 1 wicket in 27.3 overs.
