In the Easter Holidays 15 boys along with Miss Mackie, Mr Hatfield and Mrs Hatfield travelled for almost 8 hours by coach and plane to the Ski resort of Les Menuires in France’s Northern Alps. Staying for 7 nights in a fabulously ran Hotel just off the piste that catered for our every need. We were given 3 exemplary meals for everyday with much variety from meal to meal. In the evening we took part in a different activity each night being accompanied by the High school for these activities who were – to the teacher’s surprise – staying in the same hotel. The fun activities ranged from a quiz (in which the best room won) to bum-boarding down one of the ski slopes to crepe making.
The skiing at the resort was mostly determined by the weather. The opening days were extremely windy forcing many of the ski lifts to be closed, allowing the two groups from the school only to really enjoy the slopes lower down into the valley. The later days appeared to be very foggy in the mornings; however the instructors took both groups well above the clouds to the very peaks of the surrounding mountains. The views were superb with Mont Blanc being easily visible. On these days even the beginners were tested by some of the resort’s most challenging slopes as the snow conditions were close to perfect on the summits. The final day of skiing was covered in snow. The endless down pour of the snowflakes made skiing quite a tough task so the groups were reduced to some simpler slopes than we had endured the previous days. To finalise a wonderful week presentations were made where we received medals and certificates showing the level of skiing we had reached.
The week was enjoyed by everyone on the trip and huge thanks most go to Miss Mackie, Mr Hatfield and Mrs Hatfield for accompanying us boys and thanks to Mr Miles who organised such a fantastic trip.
