Rebuilding Sri Lanka 08.02.17

As part of our ongoing association with the charity Rebuilding Sri Lanka, which we have supported since the terrible tsunami of 2004 in building and running a school at Batukanaththa and now a library in the town of Matugama, we presented a cheque for £1000 to Mrs Clare Allen who runs the charity.  It was made up of donations from the 2016 Cricket Tour and the proceeds of an “Own Clothes Day” and Christmas sweater day.  This is the first instalment – there will more events throughout the year.

Mrs Allen addressed the whole school at Friday’s assembly outlining the continuing work of RSL and the success of our library, which now has in excess of 8500 members and forms a focal point for the community of Matugama.  She was full of praise and thanks for our efforts and stressed the fact that we have provided the long-term commitment so necessary in supporting charities such as RSL, a commitment we are only too pleased to provide.

We would like to express our thanks to Mrs Allen and her team on the ground in Sri Lanka for the splendid way they have worked with us and for the royal welcome they have always given to visiting teams and families.
