Our fifth annual Scholars’ Dinner was arguably our best yet, aided by this year’s guest of honour, OL Niraj Visani (2012). Joining the 80 Senior 80 Scholars, from Years 11 to 13, were various governors, members of the SLT and representatives of the Loughburians alumni association, the OLA Trust, LGS Parents Association and the Development Office team.
Thanks as usual to the efforts of the catering team the Burton Hall looked magnificent and the food was enjoyed by all.
The Head spoke of the importance of scholarship – the love of learning – as a life-long process, which we at LGS seek to foster in all our boys. The Scholars (academic and Music) being witnesses to this in the daily life of the school.
Niraj, who is now a solicitor at Baker McKenzie, a corporate law firm in London, spoke eloquently about his time at LGS, but the importance of grasping opportunities, planning ahead and making the most of what attending a school like LGS intrinsically brings with it. His advice and insights into his experiences of university (where he studied Politics at LSE) and entering the work place were especially pertinent to the Year 13s.
On behalf of the boys, guests and school, Mr Dawkins would like to again thank Niraj for his time and support, and mention here a special vote of thanks for our kind sponsors to this event, without whose generous support the Scholars’ Dinner would not happen. Key here being the Loughburians, the OLA Trust, LGSPA, Development team and a generous donation from an anonymous supporter of this annual celebration of our best!
