On 17 June, fielding a young and relatively inexperienced side, the 1stXI continued its winning ways with a hard-fought, narrow victory against King’s School, Grantham. Batting first the visitors reached 164 for 6 wickets in their 30 overs, restricted by some sensible bowling and good fielding, including a direct-hit run out as shown. Some solid batting allowed LGS to secure victory by 4 wickets, but it was a close-run thing.
The season has started very well with victories by 10 and 8 wickets against Trent College and Nottingham High School respectively, the only reversal in the longer format being against Warwick School – a 54 run defeat. The season now gets into full-swing, with the challenge of the MCC looming large on Monday 22nd, but so far the signs of a successful season are good.
