Ben Dijkstra cruised to a comfortable win in the Senior boys event at the Leicestershire schools County cross-country championship, held at Ratcliffe College on Saturday on 4th February.
In testing underfoot conditions, Ben was quite happy to stay with the leading group until around half way when he put his foot down and opened up a gap of over 100 m. His victory was a repeat of his win in last year’s race. In the team competition he was a bleak supported by George Burnett who finished a very creditable third, and Michael Pitchers in seventh.
In the intermediates race, Ollie Rouse lead from gun to tape to retain his County championship title. He also led Loughborough Grammar School to the team title with excellent support from Dan Maud in third place ,and Luke Nuttall in fourth.
With selection to represent Leicestershire in the English schools Cross country Championships resting on the results of this race, it looks likely that all six boys could gain county honours.
