Over 2000 schools entered the National Schools Cross-Country Cup, a relay competition, at the beginning of the season and, after County and Regional rounds, Loughborough Grammar School was one of only six who had teams competing in both the Junior (Years 7 and 8) and Intermediate (Years 9 and 10) age groups on finals day in Southend.
Twenty four schools competed for the Junior title and our team of Oliver Rouse, Ben Rouse, Jack Douglas, Charlie Woodfield, Bailey Peart and Anton Krupa ran extremely well to finish 8th. The Rouse twins performed exceptionally well with Ben finishing 6th and Oliver 9th, but it was great team effort – well done lads!
The Intermediate team of Ben Dijkstra, George Burnett, Mike Pitchers, Louis Robinson, Joshua Finn and Scott Ram battled hard to finish 16th of the 24 starting teams, but what might have been? Ben Dijkstra won the race, but Archie Banks, who had finished as second counter in both qualifying events, was ruled out at the last minute with an untimely bout of laryngitis. Mathematician and coach of the team Mr D J Miles, estimates that had Archie competed, LGS would have secured 5th place!
