The 1stXI continued its winning ways with a resounding victory over Nottingham High School on Wednesday 25 June. This followed a disappointment the previous day when, after scoring 160 in the allotted 20 overs and having the opposition, Leicester Grammar School, 57 for 5 in 12 overs, the heavens opened and the game was abandoned.
The Nottingham game was a 40 overs a side match and, batting first, the opposition set a challenging total of 198. Again an absolutely flat batting pitch made bowling hard work, but everyone stuck to the task manfully, not least the two Year 10 medium pacers, Ashish Trusz and Charlie Royle.
Loughborough’s openers, Rishan Chopra and Eben Kurtz, seen here leaving the pavilion, set off ahead of the required run-rate and quickly had the home side nearing the hundred mark. After Rishan was caught at short mid-off, Ben Silver joined Eben and the target was well in sight with 15 overs to go. Eben was eventually out, caught near the boundary, for 91 which brings his total for the season to 432 from 4 innings, including 160 not out and 146 not out.
Tim Wong joined Ben and they soon knocked off the remaining runs to secure the victory in just over 30 overs for the loss of two wickets.
