After defeating Norwich School in the last round, the Under 15 XV faced a tough challenge in the final round of the regional phase of the NatWest Plate Competition when they came up against a formidable Denstone XV on January 30th.
LGS asserted its authority with a try in the first few minutes and playing its usual brand of running rugby moved into a 17 – 0 lead at half time, thanks also to some resolute defence and solid tackling. The second half saw a reinvigorated Denstone take the battle to the home side and they soon reduced the deficit to 10 points with a well-executed, converted try. This seemed to spur LGS on, but another try by the visitors brought the scores even closer. The home side rallied again and a fourth try restored the earlier 10 point advantage and LGS ran out winners by 22 points to 12.
This victory gives LGS a place in the last eight of the National Competition: we await news of our opponents and the venue.
