Sterling efforts 15.01.14

The Under 15 XV continued their winning ways in the NatWest Vase Competition against very strong opposition from Norwich School and has just one more round to play before, hopefully, reaching the National Finals.

It was a very close fought encounter and although LGS always had the lead it remained tight to the end.  At half time the score was 13 – 5 to Loughborough thanks to an outstanding individual try from Ben Holloway and two penalties from Patrick Shortt, but almost immediately Norwich hit back with a converted try at the beginning of the second half:  13 – 12.  There followed a tense exchange, but once again Ben Holloway broke away to score a second try which Patrick short converted:  20 – 12.

The last fifteen minutes saw Loughborough defending desperately as the visitors’ pack laid siege on the home side’s line.  For a long time there was no way through, but with just a couple of minutes left the sterling defence broke and Norwich scored an unconverted try.  There was no further score and the final whistle blew with Loughborough triumphant by 20 points to 17.
