Curriculum
All boys follow the same academic programme which is regularly reviewed and reorganised to meet changing needs. From Years 6–9 they follow a balanced programme involving all core subjects, more than meeting the requirements of the National Curriculum. During Year 9 Key Stage 3 Tests are taken in Mathematics, English and Science and great care is taken in the selection of appropriate GCSE subjects for each boy.
In Years 10–11 all boys take a minimum of nine subjects at GCSE. English, English Literature, Mathematics and a Modern Language are compulsory. As you would expect, there is a wide range of optional subjects and particularly clever boys will discover every opportunity to demonstrate the advanced breadth of their knowledge. Boys in these years are placed into tutor groups with the same tutor over the two years.
Entry into the Sixth Form is currently conditional upon the achievement of a minimum of 5 A grades at GCSE. In addition to this, we would normally expect an A grade in those subjects selected for A Level study.
You will discover individual descriptions of all our academic departments in the Departments section, and a more detailed coverage of the programme of study for each subject may be found in LGS Today.
