Careers

All education is geared towards an end product. So even if boys wish to continue into higher education, we begin the process of considering a career at a young age. That is Year 9, the exact time when they also begin making subject choices.

At this stage, our Careers Education programme is delivered by Form Tutors through two PSHE lessons every term and continues through to Year 11. In addition, they also visit our dedicated Careers Room on a rota basis to investigate their particular areas of interest via a series of computer programs.

By Year 10 Careers are researched in greater depth. Every boy is enrolled in the Independent Schools Career Organisation (ISCO) and at the end of that year they all take a Morrisby Test. These are returned, and the results explained, in group sessions, by ISCO staff, at the beginning of Year 11.

Also in Year 11 each boy is given a private interview in the Careers Room followed by a Parents' Careers evening. In the spring of that year we hold a Careers Convention and the year finishes with work experience placements after the end of GCSE exams.

In Years 12 and 13, when Form Tutors assume responsibility for career and further education guidance, there are also extensive Careers Experience courses run by ISCO. Obviously, our excellent library has numerous sections dedicated to Careers material. At Loughborough, nothing and nobody is left to chance.
