General Studies
All pupils take courses that broaden the range or depth of their studies. While the norm is that our candidates take AS and A2 General Studies the Enrichment programme allows flexibility so that the courses followed match specific interests or preferences. Whatever students do, they all take at least one course that aims to give them a qualification over and above those secured in other curriculum time. In this way our pupils can secure additional qualifications which often made a crucial difference in the university entrance stakes!
The expertise of and interests of teachers from subject areas aross the curriculum enriches the delivery of the General Studies course.Students are placed in groups that rotate around the teachers; in this way they are exposed to a tapestry of experiences and opportunities in a wide range of subjects.
Some courses are designed to develop skills first met in other academic subjects, or to extend pupils' range of experience from the theoretical to the very practical. Others allow pupils exposure to new experiences, skills or ideas. The courses offered range from an introduction to Arabic, through First Aid to Open University modules.
Whichever courses pupils follow, the aim is to increase their experiences and develop their skills that will lead to their greater confidence in their lives beyond school, at university and in their chosen careers.
