Let the facts speak for themselves! Despite our minimum A or A* grade requirement to begin an AS course, we are proud that more students choose to study Mathematics at Sixth Form level than any other subject in the school. There are good reasons for this record.

With our 15 strong high quality staff, this department succeeds in providing a learning environment that stimulates every boy to fulfil his mathematical potential. Whatever his ability, every pupil is challenged and inspired to appreciate the critical relevance of the subject in the modern world.

Maths is thriving at Loughborough. In a typical year almost 80% of our boys achieve A* – A grades at GCSE. Hundreds of boys are entered for the annual National Mathematical Challenges at junior, intermediate and senior age ranges. Many receive gold certificates. For more than eleven years we have also hosted the Primary Masterclass programme. Each month over sixty bright students from state sector primary schools visit LGS for a morning of fun and challenging activities.

From the Lower School through to the Sixth Form, Mathematics is taught to the highest standards. We set high standards and the boys respond. For the most able we offer special classes to those considering an application to Oxbridge. At the other end of the scale, we recognise that there are always a few who find Maths a demanding subject. We address these situations and run an active 'Maths Surgery' at lunch times where boys can go to seek help from teachers and Sixth Formers. Within the department we also have four dedicated SEN teachers who help boys individually with specific problems and learning strategies.
