Music
If music is food for the soul, life at Loughborough is a very rich feast.
We are bombarded by music in this age. Never has so much been so accessible to so many – from muzak to sounds from all periods and cultures. We live in a world of iPods and downloads and gone are the days when Puccini, as a penniless student, spent nearly a week travelling to listen to Verdi's latest sensation, 'Aida'.
This cultural explosion is reflected in our magnificent new £4.2 million Music School. With its 6 classrooms including 2 state-of-the-art music technology studios, various ensemble rooms, 18 practice/individual teaching rooms, a recital and rehearsal chamber, offices and recording facilities, all set over 3 floors within a modern curve-linear structure, this innovative and exciting complex must be one of the best Music Schools in England.
Loughborough has a proud and brilliant tradition for making Music. There is specialist tuition for most orchestral and band instruments and a wide range of activities are available including tours abroad by our Choir and our numerous Bands and Ensembles.
Obviously we teach Music at both GCSE and Advanced Levels – and our results are always impressive. Currently we have 3 former pupils reading music at Cambridge and one completing a doctoral thesis at London. With so much going on and in so many different ways, it soon becomes apparent that music forms an integral and cherished part of life at Loughborough.
