Politics
Exclusively offered at A Level, this is a dynamic and challenging course with a proven record for contributing towards undergraduate studies in a wide range of disciplines. Previous LGS students have gone on to successfully read Politics at Oxbridge and many of the Russell Group universities.
In its broadest sense we are concerned with the way people interact, how they make decisions and settle disputes. That means power and the ways in which power is distributed in society. Students discover that decisions and the operation of Politics exist on many different levels throughout our society. Yet thankfully they also learn that failsafe constitutional devices, informed public opinion and institutionalised checks and balances save us from those politicians who might wish to enjoy unlimited power.
At A2 Level our focus shifts from the confines of British Government to the study of the American political system. Living in a world described by Walter Lafeber as 'The American Age', this is a critical part of our course given the links between US politics and world affairs.
Politics is at the heart of all collective human activity. It always has been and always will be.
