Music

Sometimes our campus sounds more like a conservatoire than a top English grammar school. That's because live music has long been one of the school's great traditions and strengths. Quite separate from studying the subject, we are awash with musical groups: swing bands, jazz bands, ensembles, groups and quartets; not to mention the Choir, Fanfare Trumpets and the Orchestra.

These not only play at many School events but are in demand at venues across the county and sometimes abroad. For example, our Senior Concert Band and Big Band regularly perform at the National Concert Band Festival, the LGS Parents' Association Annual Ball, Charity Balls in Nottingham, Garden Parties and the National Festival of Music for Youth. A recent highlight was a performance on the pitch at the Leicester Tigers Rugby Ground. Our Big Band and Senior Concert Band recently took off on a concert tour of Cyprus.

Our younger musicians, particularly those in the Beginners Band, the Junior and Intermediate Concert Bands and the Swing Band, regularly put on brilliant concerts for their age and experience. Such is the depth of this musical tradition that each year that goes by, sees us going from strength to strength. Yes, you can truly say that every occasion at the School, from intimate to large scale, is gloriously celebrated in music.
