Our Burton Hall Refectory delivers an example of what excellent school meals should be like. Whether you are considering its quality, the wide range of choices or the healthy ingredients we select, this is a shining model of its type. The purpose-built kitchen and dining room was opened in 1991 and our state of the art cooking equipment is designed to provide 1000 lunches every day within a one hour period. For such a demanding operation to succeed, our dedicated catering staff need to be experts in their field – and they are.
Students arriving for lunch are immediately faced with an appetising dilemma. Will it be a classic roast or casserole from the Traditional Bar or what about a choice of pasta and sauces from the Pasta Bar? Had that yesterday? Alright, there's a Rice and Jackets Bar with both meat and vegetarian toppings or a Baguette Bar with cold meats, fish and cheese or even soup if you wish. Feeling like something lighter? What about a self-help selection from the Salad Bar followed by either a hot or cold Sweet – or being particularly virtuous, simply fresh fruit and yoghurt. And yes, we offer Halal meat, gluten free dishes and obviously vegetarian and vegan meals. In fact, we cater for almost everything except one old favourite. Chip Day is restricted to Fridays only.
'Breakfast Club' is popular and a range of traditional hot and cold food is available for those who require it. We also have a short break and lunch time Tuck Shop where tasty snacks are always on offer. In line with our 'Healthy Eating' policy, only fruit-based drinks, bottled water and milk are available along with low fat crisps.
