In mid-June the U13 Cricket Team competed in the inaugural Trent College 8s and excelled itself by winning the tournament.
Two pools of four teams played a round-robin competition with the team finishing top of their group progressing to the final. Playing in uncharacteristic yellow shirts provided by the organisers, Loughborough beat Derby Grammar School, Stockport Grammar School and Chellaston Academy in its group, the game against Stockport being particularly nail-biting with a run-out on the last ball deciding it.
In the final the lads came up against the hosts, Trent College, and, as expected, it was a very tense affair. Batting first LGS posted 74 for 1 in its innings with Dominic Woolley (35 not out) and Dylan Church sharing an opening stand of 55. Trent set off at a cracking pace, but the bowlers stuck to their task manfully and restricted their opponents to 62 for 2 from their seven overs.
There were many excellent individual performances, but it was above all a real team effort. A great result.
