On Thursday 21st March, LGS boys will become budding reporters as they take part in the BBC News School Report. Along with thousands of other students from the UK, twenty Year 8 journalists will be reporting on all the day’s news and publishing it on their own website by 1600 GMT.
As well as all the local national, international, and sports headlines, look out for a special feature on solar powered vehicles (inspired by the visit of the solar car ‘Endeavour’ and its crew of LGS Old Boys), and an exclusive interview with members of the school’s own Radio One play-listed band, Park Bench Society.
For all those wondering exactly what goes on behind the scenes in a busy newsroom, simply tune in to local radio. One lunchtime last week, the boys took part in a practice exercise producing website articles and a videoed news broadcast to a deadline of just one hour. They were delighted to welcome Helen McCarthy from BBC Radio Leicester, who recorded them in action in a piece to be broadcast between 0700 and 0900 on Thursday morning. What’s more, the BBC will be returning to broadcast LIVE from the LGS School Report Newsroom at 0850.
After this early start, there will be no rest for our intrepid journalists as they move from the wireless to the world wide web with the crucial 1600 deadline in sight. We invite you to join us in seeing the results of their efforts, by clicking on http://lgschoolreport.blogspot.co.uk .
