After a relatively tranquil passage through the earlier rounds, the U14 Cricket XI came up against something of a storm in the County Cup Final match against Oakham School – quite literally in one sense.
There must have been doubts in everyone’s minds that the game could possibly go ahead as the coach left Loughborough in a torrential thunderstorm, but the weather improved and the game was on, though the sky was threatening throughout.
Batting first, not really what we wanted to do, the Loughborough batsmen struggled against some tight Oakham bowling and were eventually all out for 95 in some 27 overs, on a wicket that offered some assistance to the bowlers, with Ben Silver making a telling contribution.
95 was never going to be enough and the home side knocked off the runs for the loss of only 3 wickets. It was clear that we had to bowl them out and the bowlers perhaps tried a little too hard giving the opposition too many easy runs.
